The prize is awarded once a year and honors both national and international personalities from all areas of classical music, including chamber ensembles and orchestras. Since taking up his post in Bremen three years ago, this is already the third significant accolade he has received: First came the German Record Critics' Award, then the title of “Outstanding Cultural Personality” of his hometown San Martín in the province of Buenos Aires, and now this honor from Argentina.
“I warmly congratulate Mariano Chiacchiarini on this great honor,” said Professor Jutta Günther, President of the University of Bremen. “I am delighted that the University of Bremen has such a high-caliber artist as its director of music. I can only recommend that everyone attend the concerts, which traditionally take place at the end of the semester at the Glocke concert hall or the cathedral. The artistic quality and international appeal are truly remarkable."
Mariano Chiacchiarini was born in Buenos Aires in 1982 and comes from an Italian family. He graduated with a gold medal in orchestral and choral conducting from the Universidad Católica Argentina. In 2010, he completed a master's degree in conducting at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
Chiacchiarini has been the university music director in Bremen for three years. He is known in concert halls around the world, has already received numerous national and international awards, and currently has several permanent engagements in Germany and abroad.
He still has a particularly close connection to Argentina: The music director is one of the principal guest conductors of the Argentine National Symphony Orchestra and is regularly invited to perform at the Teatro Colón, Latin America's most important theater.
Those who would like to experience Mariano Chiacchiarini’s work will soon have the opportunity to do so: On Sunday, July 6, the University of Bremen Choir and Orchestra will give their grand end-of-semester concert at the Glocke concert hall. The program will feature Giuseppe Verdi's “Messa da Requiem.”
