Long-Standing Partnership: German-Japanese Exchange at MARUM

On December 11 and 12, researchers from the University of Bremen and Hokkaido University met to exchange information about their current academic work. Hokkaido University is one of Bremen's partner universities.

Researchers from Bremen and Hokkaido reported on their interdisciplinary work. Their presentation covered topics including microbiology, glaciology, paleoclimate research, oceanography, as well as polar and marine sciences. The Exchange Day, in which approximately 30 researchers from Hokkaido and more than 50 researchers from Bremen took part, was held in Bremen for the second time.

Hokkaido University, which has its main campus in Sapporo and its “marine” campus in Hakodate, Japan, is one of Bremen’s partner universities. The event aims to maintain the good contacts that have existed between the two institutions for over ten years and to set new impulses for future cooperation. Among the participants are also members of MARUM and the “Ocean Floor” Cluster of Excellence. The exchange is organized by Professor Wilhelm Hagen from the Biology/ Chemistry faculty.
