Pre-certification procedure for university certificates in the state of Bremen
To obtain an apostille or legalisation for use abroad, you will first need a pre-certification of your university certificate.
The office responsible for this is the International Office of the University of Bremen.
You can arrange a personal appointment via zeugnisanerkennungprotect me ?!uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de.
Please bring the following items to your appointment:
- The original certificate or an officially certified copy
(only valid if issued by the awarding university).
Note: The documents must bear the university’s round seal and the name of the signatory. - The fee of €20.00 per document
(payment in cash only, and please bring the exact amount).
Please note: After your appointment at the University of Bremen, you must go to the Senator for the Interior to obtain the final apostille/legalisation.
The office hours are Monday–Friday from 9:00 to 12:00. The processing time is usually 2–7 working days.
Alternative: Submission by post
In exceptional cases – for example, if you are already abroad – you may submit your documents by post.

Procedure
The University of Bremen will carry out the requested pre-certification and then forward the pre-certified document via internal mail to the Senator for the Interior for the issuance of the apostille/legalisation.
Returning your documents
The documents will be returned directly by the Senator for the Interior. The Senator will send the documents back by registered post. For this, the Senator for Internal Affairs will charge the shipping costs in the invoice.

Fees / Invoice
Please note that both the pre-certification at the University of Bremen and the apostille/legalisation at the Senator for the Interior each cost €20.00 per document (a total of €40.00).
You will therefore receive two separate invoices.
