Prof. Dr. Rebekka v. Mallinckrodt – Faculty of Social Sciences

Professor Rebekka v. Mallinckrodt (historian of the early modern period) has received two honors: an Opus Magnum grant from the Volkswagen Foundation and election to the Hamburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

In July 2022, Rebekka v. Mallinckrodt was approved for an Opus Magnum grant from the Volkswagen Foundation. It is among the most renowned research funding available in the humanities and the liberal arts in Germany. According to the Foundation, it is intended to “provide professors from the humanities and social sciences who have distinguished themselves through their outstanding work the freedom to devote themselves intensively to the writing of a larger academic work – an opus magnum with appeal beyond their own professional community.” Rebekka v. Mallinckrodt will write a monograph on people of color in early modern Germany 1650–1850. She was then notified of her election as a full member to the Hamburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The Academy is comprised of outstanding scholars and scientists, particularly from northern Germany.
