Language Learning in the Summer: Choose from 22 Languages

22 languages and many different course formats: Directly after Easter, the Languages Centre of the Universities in the Land of Bremen will start the summer semester with its range of courses. The program includes semester and intensive courses as well as paid education leave.

EU Funds Arctic Project with 5.5 Million Euros

In the new SEA-Quester project, the University will investigate shallow water and intertidal seaweed habitats in Svalbard and Greenland. The EU project with ten partners that is being led by the Technical University of Denmark is being funded by the EU with 5.5 million euros for four years.

Bremen competence for the German Research Foundation (DFG): Three female and four male professors from the University of Bremen have been elected to DFG Review Boards. The 49 review boards are important advisory bodies when awarding DFG funding.

Avoiding Packaging Waste with the Help of Mycelium

Mycelium is a fine thread-like network of fungi. It is suitable as a packaging material. A new research project led by BIBA at the University of Bremen focuses on this biodegradable material as well as the production, use, and recycling of packaging.

Equal Care Day Nordwest 2024: Cares about Caregiving over a Lifetime

On March 14, the network “Equal Care Day Nordwest” invites you to the event “(Ver)Sorge(n) im Lebenslauf in der Region Nord-West.” It will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Jade University of Applied Sciences in Wilhelmshaven, is free of charge, and the first part is online.

Faster Drug Discovery with GlycoSHIELD

An international research team, which includes members of the University of Bremen, has developed a novel, environmentally friendly algorithm that can predict the morphology of sugar coats on clinically relevant proteins within minutes.

Training Students to Become Systemic Coaches

Currently, 40 students of the Business Psychology master’s program are undergoing coaching training. After passing the examination, five of them received their certificates at the founding ceremony of the Institute for Sustainability Coaching on 24 February.

International Expedition: Environmental Data in Unprecedented Detail

For the first time, an international research team has succeeded in obtaining a high-resolution continuous record of environmental data from shallow-water corals off the coast of Hawai’i (USA) by coring fossil coral reefs. The cores have now been analyzed at MARUM.

Bremen Thesis Award 2023 for Outstanding Final Theses

Kick-off Meeting for a New Polar Research Project

The seasonal aspects of Arctic warming are the focus of the new YESSS research project. The team observes life cycles, foraging and wintering of selected key species throughout the year, and conducts experiments for this purpose. The BMBF will provide 2.7 million euros to fund the project.

High level of third-party funding

A great strength of the University of Bremen is its considerable success in the acquisition of third-party funds, both in individual as well as in collaborative research. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is the largest provider of third-party finance: Besides the MARUM Cluster of Excellence, the University of Bremen is currently involved in no less than seven Collaborative Research Centers, as well as a number of research groups and priority programs.

Strategic promotion of talent

The targeted promotion of young talent, unlocking potential, and early independence are among the guiding principles of the University of Bremen. The Student Advisor

Stephan Determann has been working at the Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB) for 24 years. Initially, he still received consulting inquiries by post. Today, as head of the ZSB, he manages offers ranging from the degree database to the information day for prospective students.

Every Friday, Adela Talipov switches back and forth between the university and her high school. As part of the early studies program, the 17-year-old student is attending a lecture on experimental physics. For her, it’s the perfect opportunity to get a taste of university life without the pressure.

The Apprenticeship Coordinator

The University of Bremen is not only a place for students and young researchers, but also trains about 80 young people in various professions every year. Silke Heinrich from the University of Bremen coordinates this area. She establishes contact with schools and educational institutions and promotes vocational training at the university to young people.
