The Welcome Center of the U Bremen Research Alliance supports international researchers and their families with the planning and realization of their stay in Bremen regardless of the length of their stay or how it is financed. As a central service point, the Welcome Center team offers assistance with all non-academic matters and practical matters for making your stay in Bremen as enjoyable and uncomplicated as possible – whether you are here for a month or have been appointed to a permanent post. An extensive network of internal and external partners makes it possible to provide a wide range of administrative and social services.
Together with the SeniorCitizens, the Welcome Center organizes a variety of regular events for international researchers.
From day trips to Hamburg or excursions in and around Bremen through to workshops on different topics with external partners and city tours of Bremen, there is something here for everyone!
The weekly Café International is a meeting place for international researchers and PhD students – currently held online via Zoom –
offering opportunities for open exchange and discussions.
The café offers the chance to meet other researchers and ask the Welcome Center staff questions any questions you may have.
An overview of the current events can be found here.

The SeniorCitizens team assists international students and visiting scientists and their families, thereby contributing to the University of Bremen’s diverse and international campus. In particular, the project is characterized by the organization of events and serves as an international platform with the possibility of making new contacts and encouraging intercultural exchange and networking. This results in personal contacts and plans between the voluntary SeniorCitizens and the international guests at the University of Bremen. The SeniorCitizens community receives support from the International Office (kompass and Welcome Center) as well as the University of Bremen’s Academy for Continuing Education, which establish the contact to the students and researchers in addition to helping with the coordination of the group.
The Welcome Center offers international scientists support and advice before their arrival, during their stay in Bremen, and after they depart Germany. In addition, it also provides information about returning to Germany. Before your arrival, it offers you both initial orientation and assistance with the necessary formalities. The additional services include support with visa applications, application for or assistance extending the residence permit, registering with the City of Bremen, and advice on finding the right insurance. In addition, the Welcome Center will also be pleased to help you find German courses and apartments in Bremen.
