Study description
Microorganisms in the ocean are fundamentally important for the preservation of our biosphere. They significantly influence our immediate environment and the global climate, while playing central roles in maintaining global biogeochemical cycles. Despite this overwhelming importance, many of the fundamental roles and relationships remain largely unexplored. Over the course of their studies, students explore microbial key roles in oceanic food webs and nutrient cycles, marine microbial diversity, the consequences of global warming and marine pollution, and the microbial influence on the global climate. IThe degree program offers students the opportunity to professionally qualify at a high level in the research field of marine microbiology. This broad and profound education is designed to enable them to help develop solutions to global problems and successfully contribute to basic research in the marine sciences.
