About
Professor Lundan grew up in Finland and is a Finnish citizen. She studied Finance and International Business at Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA, earning her Ph.D. in 1996.
Her first academic appointment was at the University of Reading, UK where she contributed to the work of the well-known research group on International Business. She left Reading to join the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, where she spent eleven years, before joining the University of Bremen in April 2010.
In addition to her academic appointments, Professor Lundan has served as a Senior Economic Affairs Officer and a scholar in residence at the Division on Investment and Enterprise of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva. She was also an Associate Research Fellow of the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA) in Helsinki.
Her work has appeared in journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Industrial and Corporate Change, International Business Review, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, World Economy, and Transnational Corporations, and in numerous contributions to edited volumes. She is the editor or co-editor of four books, and together with the late John H. Dunning, co-author of the second edition of Multinational Enterprises and the Global Economy, a seminal book in the field of International Business.
In 2009, she was elected a lifetime Fellow of the European Academy of International Business (EIBA), in recognition of ‘outstanding achievements in research and education in the field of International Business’.
In 2013, the IMG Chair hosted the annual European International Business Academy conference in Bremen with professor Lundan as President. In 2015 Professor Lundan was elected to the Executive Board of the Academy of International Business (AIB) as Vice President (Program). She was also serving as the Program Chair responsible for the AIB 2017 conference held in Dubai.
Professor Lundan is the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Business Policy (JIBP). JIBP is an official publication of the Academy of International Business, which also publishes the top-ranked Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS). Both journals are published by Palgrave Macmillan (Springer) and share the same editorial office. JIBP began publishing in 2018. Additionally, she is a member of seven editorial boards, including the Journal of International Business Studies, Global Strategy Journal, International Business Review, and Multinational Business Review. She is also a member of the reviewer pool of the European Science Foundation.
Since September 2017, Professor Lundan is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Aalto University School of Business in Helsinki, Finland.
In 2018, she was elected a lifetime Fellow of the AIB, in recognition of ‘outstanding contributions to the scholarly development of the field of international business’.
