Dabei werden grundlegende Konzepte, Begrifflichkeiten und Theorien der Metaphern-Forschung ebenso berücksichtigt wie die soziohistorische und soziokulturelle Kontextualisierung der Lieder.
Essentieller und besonderer Bestandteil des Seminars ist das Mitwirken an einem interuniversitären Metaphern-Workshop, der vom 11.6.-13.6. 2026 in Bonn stattfinden wird und bei dem wir uns nicht nur aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und in unterschiedlichen Formaten mit Metaphorik und Metonymie beschäftigen werden, sondern uns auch konkret, im Sinne des forschenden Lernens, mit zentralen Aspekten wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens und Publizierens am Beispiel des – im Jahr 2026 sein 25-jähriges Jubiläum feierndes – Open-Access-Journals metaphorik.de auseinandersetzen werden. Für die mit diesem Workshop einhergehenden Reise- und Übernachtungskosten wird ein Zuschuss beantragt.
Das Seminar wird in verschiedenen Modulen in verschiedenen Studiengängen verschiedener Fächer angeboten – in der Frankoromanistik, der Germanistik, der Linguistik bzw. den Language Sciences und den Transnationalen Literaturwissenschaften, im Master of Education, fortgeschrittenen BA und im MA –, und auch die in den jeweiligen Modulen vorgesehenen Prüfungsformen werden jeweils angeboten.

Reimann hat sowohl westafrikanische als (…) Als Ausgangspunkt des Seminars dient uns die Ausstellung „Black Mirrorball“ der Künstlerin Anys Reimann im Museum Weserburg. Reimann hat sowohl westafrikanische als auch deutsche Wurzeln, bezeichnet sich selbst als Afropäerin und ist bekannt für ihre vielschichtigen Bildnisse Schwarzer Frauen. Dabei spielt sie mit den Wechselwirkungen von Selbstbildern und Fremdzuschreibungen und setzt westlich-kolonial geprägten Perspektiven eigene Bildwelten entgegen.
In unserem Seminar erarbeiten wir uns anhand von Reimanns Exponaten Themen wie Identität, Körper und Gender und bringen sie in Zusammenhang mit verschiedenen Beispielen aus der Schwarzen Gegenwartsliteratur, die sich ähnlichen Themen widmen. Wir lesen Texte von Autor:innen wie Sharon Dodua Otoo, Raphaëlle Red, Olivia Wenzel oder Jeannette Oholi, verarbeiten unsere Lektüre sowie die Rezeption von Reimanns Werken in verschiedenen Textformaten und veröffentlichen sie auf blogsatz, dem gemeinsamen Blog der Uni und des Literaturhaus.
Darüber hinaus konzipieren und moderieren wir eine Lesung mit Sharon Dodua Otoo, die wir am 30.6. in den Räumen des Museum Weserburg durchführen werden.

So verwundert es wenig, dass die Nahrung auch Eingang in Literatur und Kunst findet. Im Seminar wollen wir uns damit beschäftigen, wie das Alimentäre narrativ ausgestaltet wird. Als kulturelle Praxis, ästhetische Chiffre und politisches Dispositiv legt es Bedeutungsebenen frei und soll uns als wissenschaftlicher Untersuchungsgegenstand dienen: Zwischen Mangel und Überfluss, Genuss und Ekel, Gemeinschaft und Ausschluss entfalten sich symbolische Ordnungen und Machtverhältnisse, die in literarischen, filmischen und theatralen Darstellungen des Alimentären sichtbar werden.
Im Zentrum unserer Analysen stehen die folgenden vier Primärtexte:
Carlo Goldonis Komödie Il servitore di due padroni (dt. Diener zweier Herren), inszeniert Hunger, List und soziale Hierarchien im Modus der Commedia dell’arte, überwindet sie aber zugleich. Essensszenen fungieren hier als Motor der Handlung und als Medium sozialer Ordnungen, in denen Klasse, Begehren und Überleben komisch gebrochen verhandelt werden. Die Novelle Boule de Suif (dt. Fettklößchen) von Guy de Maupassant verbindet Nahrungsmangel, moralische Heuchelei und nationale Identität. Essen wird hier zum Prüfstein sozialer und politischer Solidarität im Kontext von Krieg und Besatzung. Der dystopische Film El hoyo (dt. Der Schacht) von Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, entwirft ein radikales Bild vertikaler Verteilung: Nahrung wird zum Instrument biopolitischer Kontrolle, sowie zum Gradmesser von Solidarität und Gewalt: Das Alimentäre erscheint als Symbol neoliberaler Konkurrenzordnungen und globaler Ungleichheit. In Michel Houellebecqs Gegenwartsroman Sérotonine (dt. Serotonin) sind Konsum, Agrarpolitik und depressive Körperzustände eng verschränkt. Das Alimentäre wird zur Signatur spätkapitalistischer Erschöpfung und verweist auf ökonomische wie affektive Krisen.
Gemeinsam werden wir uns zunächst ein theoretisches Fundament und einen Überblick über das interdisziplinäre Feld der Food Studies erarbeiten. Leitfragen können bspw. sein: Wie werden Hunger, Überfluss und Ekel inszeniert? Wie strukturieren Essenspraktiken soziale Differenz (Klasse, Geschlecht, Nation)? Und inwiefern fungiert das Alimentäre als ästhetische Kategorie, an der politische Ordnungen sichtbar, kritisiert oder unterlaufen werden?
Das Seminar zielt darauf, das Alimentäre als Ort sozialer Aushandlungsprozesse und symbolischer Verdichtung sichtbar zu machen und daraus weiterführende Forschungsperspektiven zu entwickeln. Erwartet werden die Bereitschaft zur Diskussion komplexer theoretischer Texte sowie die Übernahme eines Referats mit Thesenpapier.

The blue humanities is a fairly recent literary and cultural theory that (…) This seminar approaches Shakespeare’s writing from the perspective of the blue humanities. The blue humanities is a fairly recent literary and cultural theory that focuses on the representation of water. It asks how the world might appear from a perspective that foregrounds water rather than land, and how different concepts that structure the lives of many people (such as the nation state) are intricately bound up with a land-based view of this blue planet.
Historically, the blue humanities has partly evolved from early modern studies. The early modern period was shaped by shifting power balances as well as shifting conceptions of the world, and humanity’s relationship with the ocean was pivotal to these changes. In this seminar, students will familiarise themselves with key concepts and tenets of the blue humanities. We will apply these to Shakespeare’s writing and we will explore both the presence of and references to bodies of water (the sea, rivers, storms) in Shakespeare’s poetry and plays, as well as his use of water as an image and symbol.
We will also participate in the Long Night of the Sciences with a poster exhibition, which means that students will have the chance to communicate the outcomes of the course and the expertise they have acquired to a non-academic audience (for more information, please consult the syllabus).

Important note on course preparation: We will read the texts in this order: Twelfth Night – Pericles – The Tempest. As we will start with a theoretical introduction to the blue humanities, sessions on water in Shakespeare’s age and on the sonnets, students will have time to catch up at the beginning on the course, but you must all have read Twelfth Night by the time we begin to discuss it in class. La narración no fiable termina con un giro inesperado y se encuentran múltiples ejemplos en literatura (“An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge”, de Ambrose Bierce) y cine, como, por ejemplo, en FIGHT CLUB o SHUTTER ISLAND. En el seminario analizaremos cuentos de Borges, Cortázar y otros autores argentinos, y algunas películas argentinas y españolas.
El módulo requiere una constante participación activa, una ponencia oral y un trabajo escrito por parte de todos los/todas las estudiantes. Para obtener los créditos, los estudiantes del BA + MEd tienen que presentar una ponencia en clase y elaborarla después por escrito en español (15 a 17 páginas para el BA; 20 a 22 páginas para los estudiantes del MEd). Los estudiantes del Máster Romanistik International y del Máster TnL deben entregar un trabajo de 20 a 22 páginas de largo. Por último, los estudiantes del módulo 7 S del Máster Romanistik deben aprobar, además de la presentación oral y el trabajo escrito, un examen oral de media hora en uno de los dos seminarios sobre el corpus del seminario.

In effect, they have been variously discussed as opposites, or even rivals. Poetry, however, has often been used as a way to capture and communicate the insights and aesthetics of scientific endeavour by both scientists and poets.
In this seminar, we will first focus on 19th-century poetry and its representation of different scientific fields, theories and practices, before venturing further into the 20th and 21st century to examine the specific imprint of mathematics, physics, biology, geology and the climate sciences in verse. We will use media-specific poetry analysis or 'close reading' as a method and learn more about this technique of 'zooming in', not least by contextualizing it with other approaches of 'zooming out' - from New Historicism to distant reading.

We will take both a historical and theoretical approach to probe the term's affordance in parallel with terms such as 'postcolonial' and 'postmodern'.
Historically, we will relate the term to the Anthropocene. Although a proposal to name a new geological epoch following the Holocene as ‘the Anthropocene’ has recently been rejected by the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) and the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), the term continues to be used both in public discussions as well as across a wide range of disciplines in the sciences and the humanities to describe human impact on the Earth system. The goal of this seminar is to familiarize students with the concept of the Anthropocene, its discursive relevance and specific use in relation to literary and cultural representations.
Theoretically, we will focus especially on literary negotiations of binary oppositions such as nature and culture, human and other-than-human, globe and planet, as well as the positionality of climate knowledge production, and related concepts such as the Capitalocene, the Plantationocene, or the Chthulucene.
