Angesichts des Klimawandels und dessen sozial ungleichen Auswirkungen ist nur durch ein Zusammendenken von Sozialstaatlichkeit und Klima-/Umweltpolitik eine angemessene politische Reaktion konzipierbar. Seit einigen Jahren wird wissenschaftlich intensiver an den Möglichkeiten einer solchen Integration in Richtung Ökosozialstaat gearbeitet. Diese internationalen Forschungsanstrengungen als auch mögliche Umsetzungskonzepte für ein Land wie die Bundesrepublik Deutschland werden in diesem Seminar analysiert und auf ihre innere Kohärenz und Tragfähigkeit hin analysiert. Gegenstand des Seminars sind mithin wissenschaftlich und politisch entwickelte Konstruktionen, wie zukünftige Institutionen und Politiken aussehen könnten, mithin normativ gehaltvolle Zukunftskonzepte, deren Begründetheit in bestimmten Werthaltungen ebenso untersucht wird wie die Umsetzbarkeit in Organisationen, Governance-Konfigurationen und Managmentkonzepten.


Prüfung:
Im Rahmen des Moduls M4b umfasst das Seminar 6 CP. Präsentation im Seminar und Hausarbeit sind die Bestandteile dieser Veranstaltung.

The seminar intends to give an overview on the development of (welfare) capitalism in recent years.

We will start with different concepts of capitalism as a historical phenomenon. Topics will be structural transformations and politics, respectively the role of different actors such as the state or multinational companies. Finally we will mirror social policies as part of welfare capitalism in different countries and their success to soften outcomes of capitalist production.

Gender inequality in socio-economic and political realms (e.g., the gendered division of paid and unpaid labor, and underrepresentation of women in political parties and labor unions) prompts us to rethink a number of key assumptions of comparative welfare research. The unit of comparative welfare analysis is an average worker (in the manufacturing industry) with dependents; however, it was only after the 1970s that a large number of women entered the labor market. To give another example, it is commonly known that male workers’ political struggle to attain their social rights was crucial for generating the contours of welfare states but it is unclear whether women workers were able to do so, given their lack of access to political resources (e.g., voting rights) in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Lastly, while traditional social policies experienced retrenchment under the austerity era, work-family policies expanded in the last twenty years, coinciding with the increase of female labor participation and female representation in parliaments. This seminar offers students the opportunity to revisit theoretical frameworks of the comparative welfare research from a gender perspective and examine these theoretical prepositions empirically. The impact of welfare policies on gender relation and women’s political influence on the formation of welfare policies will be embedded in historical continuations. This seminar comprises three parts. First, it will introduce feminist critiques of welfare states and welfare state theory. Second, it will investigate the historical development of social policies for women and the role of women as political actors in the development process. Lastly, it will evaluate whether the recent development of work-family polices reshapes gender relations and investigate potential explanations for the development.

Das Seminar behandelt das Buch ‚Kritik von Lebensformen‘ der an der HU Berlin lehrenden Philosophin Rahel Jaeggi. Als Vertreterin der Kritischen Theorie widmet sich Jaeggi der Frage nach der Möglichkeit und den notwendigen Vorbedingungen einer Kritik des liberalen Rechtsstaates als (vermeintlich) rationaler Lebensform. Im Seminar diskutieren wir den Gesamttext des Buches.

Das Seminar behandelt Fragen internationaler Arbeitspolitik mit Blick auf die Interessenvertretung durch Gewerkschaften und Betriebsräte sowie die Rolle sozialer Bewegungen.

We would all associate the labour movement with "Soliarity" as a founding principle. However, with increasing globalisation, the question arises which forms of solidarity emerge in a transnational arena, respectively between organisations and workers of different countries. To answer these questions we frist try to find out specific preconditions of transnational solidarity. Then we both look at institutionalised forms of solidarity in the European Union as European works councils or the social dialogue. But we also discuss why the the introduction of a European minimum wage was not unanimously supported by trade unions.

The future of work has been a topic of intense academic and political debates over the last decade or so. This seminar will review the main driving forces that change employment structures and job characteristics on the one hand and discuss policy options that have been put forward to cope with the ongoing transformation of labour markets in a way that is societally and economically sustainable. The first part of the seminar will therefore devoted to factors such as technological change (digitalisation and automation, artificial intelligence, online platforms), demographic change and labour shortages, de-carbonisation, (de)globalisation and, last but not least, new and diverse forms of flexible and mobile working. The second part of the seminar will then address core policy areas such as active labour market policies to adjust to structural change, continuous vocational training for adult workers, social insurance coverage of flexible forms of employment, reforms in wage setting and worker participation and policies to ensure a productive and healthy world of work, e.g. by new forms of working time policy. Some light will be shed on sectoral, national and EU level initiatives.

Successful participation in the seminar requires regular attendance, a presentation on a selected topic and an oral exam.

The course intends to familiarise students with main concepts and theories of migration (policy) studies. It aims at establishing a link between the macro-, meso- and micro-level of migration processes to present a complex yet comprehensive picture of human mobility in the modern times. The course will cover the following broad questions: Why do people migrate? How does the current world system of nation states shape migratory pathways? Which barriers do migrants face on their way to economic, social and structural integration in host states? And which alternatives to state-centred views on international migration exist?

Comparative welfare state research has for a long time been centred on welfare states of the Global North. However, in recent years social policy arrangements in the Global South are increasingly studied as well. In this seminar, we will shed light on some of the key questions that arise in this regard: Which developments have shaped social policy-making in the Global South, which actors are relevant, and which policy instruments can be identified? How are social policy developments in different countries and regions connected, and which role do transnational factors play here? And finally: Which theoretical approaches can we rely on to study social policy in the Global South?
The course language is English. Information on course structure and requirements will be provided in the first session.

Das Seminar begleitet Sie in dem Zeitraum, in dem Sie Ihre Masterarbeit schreiben. Es unterstützt die Anfertigung dieser Arbeit in methodischer, methodologischer, konzeptioneller, theoretischer, arbeitsorganisatorischer und fachlicher (soweit möglich) Hinsicht. In der Auftaktsitzung wird der Stand Ihrer Masterarbeit zum Ausgangspunkt einer gemeinsamen Klärung der weiteren Bedarfe Ihrerseits und der angemessenen Zeitplanung im Seminar genommen. Blockseminar-Termine können deshalb auch in der vorlesungsfreien Zeit stattfinden. Durch die Präsentation von Teilelementen Ihrer Masterarbeit oder zusammenfassender Darstellungen Ihrer Forschungsergebnisse wird im Seminar auf allen Stufen des Ausarbeitungsgrades Ihrer Masterarbeit wechselseitige Diskussion und Beratung stattfinden.


Prüfung:
Die Prüfung im Seminar ist Teil des Moduls Masterarbeit im Umfang von 6 CP. Sie können wählen zwischen folgenden Prüfungsformaten:
1. Forschungspapier: Verfassen eines eigenständigen Aufsatzes, der inhaltlich in Zusammenhang mit dem Thema der Masterarbeit steht.
2. Hausarbeit zu einem Teilkomplex der Masterarbeit, z.B. Forschungsstand und Literaturüberblick; Theorieausarbeitung oder -vergleich; (Teil-)Auswertung des empirischen Materials; Gesamtdarstellung der Evaluationskriterien in evaluativen Forschungsdesigns.
Das jeweilige Format umfasst die schriftliche Ausarbeitung und eine Präsentation im Seminar!
Ist Ihre Masterarbeit schon weit fortgeschritten, wird Prüfungsformat 1 empfohlen, ansonsten Format 2.

Wer möchte sich gerne verantwortungsvoll für ein Kind im Grundschulalter engagieren? Im Rahmen des Mentorenprogramms "Balu und Du" erhalten Studierende die Möglichkeit, als Paten, einmal in der Woche, ehrenamtlich, Zeit mit einem Schulkind zu verbringen. Diese Paten bzw. Balus bringen Bewegung und Abwechslung in den konkreten Alltag der Patenkinder bzw. Moglis. Balu und Mogli treffen sich zuverlässig über einen Zeitraum von einen Jahr.

Für Moglis ist es eine ganz besondere Gelegenheit eine etwas andere Welt kennenzulernen. Durch die Freundschaft mit ihrem Balu entsteht häufig ein Entwicklungsschub. Sie wirken in der Schule konzentrierte, offener und konfliktfähiger.

Das bundesweite Mentorenprogramm "Balu und Du" besteht seit 2002. Menschen an 70 Standorten in Deutschland engagieren sich dafür, dass es Kindern in besonderen Lebenslagen besser geht. Seit 2008 wird das Konzept des Mentorenprogramms von der Freiwilligen-Agentur Bremen umgesetzt.

Der Fachbereich Sozialwissenschaften fördert das ehrenamtliche Engagement von Studierenden, insbesondere im Rahmen des Mentorenprogramm. Daher besteht eine Kooperation mit der Freiwilligen-Agentur Bremen.

Wie ist das Bundespresseamt organisiert, damit es für den Kanzler sprechen kann? Wie kann ein Unternehmen mit einem Image-Kampagne seine Reputation verbessern? Wie muss eine Nichtregierungsorganisation ihre Social-Media-Kanäle gestalten, um mehr Unterstützer:innen zu gewinnen? Public Relations ist aus dem gesellschaftlichen Leben nicht mehr wegzudenken.
Das Seminar beginnt mit einer Einführung in die Geschichte der PR, zu ihren Strategien, Tools und Akteuren.
Dann werden Teams gebildet, die in Gruppenarbeit ein inhaltliches Thema, wie z.B. Krisenkommunikation oder Unternehmens-PR, erarbeiten und in einer Präsentation vorstellen.
Das Seminar gibt einen breiten Überblick über Fragestellungen der PR in ganz unterschiedlichen Anwendungsfeldern.
Mit Besuchen von Vertreter:innen aus der Praxis erhalten die Teilnehmenden ein lebendigen Einblick in die Arbeit von PR-Leuten und ihr spezifisches Berufsfeld.
Dieses Seminar richtet sich ausschließlich an Studierende im FB 8. Die Teilnehmerzahl ist begrenzt. Teilnahmebedingung ist die Bereitschaft zur aktiven Mitarbeit, zur Teamarbeit und zur Einhaltung von Vereinbarungen, die zu Beginn des Seminars festgelegt werden.

Die Arbeitswelt ist im Wandel. Zahlreiche Aufgaben in Organisationen der Wirtschaft, des Non-Profit-Bereichs und des öffentlichen Sektors werden heute zunehmend im Rahmen von Projekten erledigt. Zudem schließen sich immer mehr Freelancer unterschiedlicher Fachkompetenz zu flexiblen Projektteams zusammen, um größere Aufträge zu bearbeiten.

Aber was ist ein Projekt konkret? Wie geht man bei der Planung und Organisation von Projekten vor? Welche Faktoren beeinflussen den erfolgreichen Verlauf und Abschluss eines Projektes? Was kann ich persönlich für den Erfolg eines eigenen Projektes tun – in der Rolle als ProjektplanerIn, als ProjektleiterIn, als fachkompetentes Mitglied in einem Projektteam?

Während der Veranstaltung erlangen Sie fundiertes Wissen für die Planung, Organisation und Durchführung von Projekten. Sie lernen die grundsätzliche Vorgehensweise und verschiedenen Instrumente der Projektplanung und -steuerung kennen und wenden die erlernten Instrumente an praktischen Fallbeispielen an. Darüber hinaus werden Sie für das Umfeld von Projekten sensibilisiert.
Neben den harten Faktoren geht es in der Veranstaltung auch um die weichen, d.h. um die menschliche Seite in Projekten. Wie setzt man ein Projektteam optimal zusammen und gestaltet die Teamarbeit erfolgreich? Was macht eine gute Projektleitung aus? Wie kann man ein Team im Projektverlauf immer wieder motivieren und Konflikten vorbeugen? Und wenn Konflikte aufkommen, wie können sie wirkungsvoll gelöst werden?

Alle diese Fragestellungen werden in der Veranstaltung behandelt. Die Teilnehmer*innen erhalten das Rüstzeug für einen selbstsicheren Umgang mit Projekten und können so ihre eigene Rolle in künftigen Projekten im Studium und in der Arbeitswelt besser finden und ausfüllen.

Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende, die das 3. Fachsemester abgeschlossen haben.

Nachdem wir uns in den vergangenen Semestern im Public Transport Lab mit den großen Themen rund um Nahverkehr und Verkehrswende befasst haben, wollen wir im Sommersemester 2023 die Perspektive wechseln. Das heißt nicht, dass wir die Verkehrswende im Kleinen oder individuell betrachten möchten, sondern dass wir nach Beiträgen suchen, die klein begonnen haben bzw. beginnen und große Wirkung entfaltet konnten bzw. das Potenzial dafür haben. Damit wir möchten wir das Augenmerk darauf richten, dass die Verkehrswende nicht nur eine Frage von Technik, Planung, Strategien und Gesetzen ist. Es geht auch darum, Menschen mit einzubringen, zu beteiligen, kreative Lösungen zu finden und Mitstreiter:innen zu gewinnen.

Das Veranstaltungskonzept wird aktuell erarbeitet und nach und nach hier eingepflegt. Ihr könnt damit rechnen, dass wir wieder spannende Referierende gewinnen werden. In dem Zusammenhang überlegen wir, statt der bisherigen Leistungsnachweise durch Gruppenarbeiten zu selbst
ausgewählten Themen, ein Crowdresearchprojekt durchzuführen, zudem ihr als Studierende entsprechende Daten recherchiert. Für das Crowdreserchprojekt benötigen wir verschiedenen Partner und müssen passende Aufgaben finden, die noch nicht feststehen.
