“You are what you eat and how you eat”: Cooperation project I. Family
The collaborative project “I. Family” in the Health Sciences is an illustrative example of how partners in U Bremen Research Alliance bundle their strengths. In this particular case, the partners involved are the University of Bremen and the Leibniz Institute for Epidemiology and Prevention Research (BIPS). Together with other institutions in 12 different countries, these two members of the Alliance are investigating factors that determine the dietary habits of European children as well as adolescents and their parents. While BIPS was responsible for coordinating all the data collection in Germany, institutes of the University contributed above all their technological expertise. For example, the Center for Cognitive Sciences (ZKW) contributed its competence in computer imaging to investigate the neuropsychological determinants of children’s eating habits: And the Center for Computing and Communication Technologies at the University of Bremen (TZI) supplied an interactive survey tool. ROBEX - from the deep sea to space
The ROBEX project brings together experience from the exploration of the moon and deep-sea research. It is located between the high profile areas Minds Media Machines and Marine, Polar and Climate Research. The U Bremen Research Alliance partners University of Bremen (MARUM - Centre for Marine Environmental Sciences), Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and German Aerospace Centre (DLR) are participating in the joint project of numerous German universities and scientific organizations as well as the industrial partners Airbus and iSeaMC GmbH. The aim is to identify, develop and test technologies that allow the exploration of hard-to-reach areas with extreme environmental conditions such as the deep sea, polar regions or other planets. The focus is on the development of a modular robotic infrastructure, some of which functions autonomously. Different technical innovations are developed in specific design teams. Technology approaches are transferred from deep-sea technology / marine technology to space technology and vice versa. To the website
