"Communications. The European Journal of Communication Research" is one of the leading international academic peer-reviewed journals in the field of communications studies with a special focus on developments in Europe and in European comparison. The journal covers communication studies topics in its entirety. Particular attention is given to the areas of communication theory and methodology, media content and media representation, media use and appropriation, media production and structures, communicators and the general public, political and economic communication, digital media communication and communitization, transnational and -cultural communication as well as communication history and media development.
"Communications" is edited by ZeMKI member Prof. Dr. Stefanie Averbeck-Lietz and Prof. Dr. Leen d’Haenens (Catholic University Leuven, Institute for Media Studies) together with five associate editors and an editorial board with members from several countries with Mouton-de Gruyter publishers in its 42nd year. The journal is listed in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). The editorial management is handled by ZeMKI member Dr. Leif Kramp.
The magazine was founded in 1976 by Prof. Dr. Alphons Silbermann (†). It was edited by Prof. Dr. Karsten Renckstorf (†) and Prof. Dr. Keith Roe, and by ZeMKI member Prof. Dr. Friedrich Krotz until 2016. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kommunikationsforschung e.V. (DGKF) holds the title rights.
