Guideline for applicants - University of Bremen

  1. A PhD degree is required for the position. You must have completed your PhD no earlier than 3 years before the start of the programme). Thus, the PhD must have been completed on or after 1 September, 2018 (date of the doctoral degree certificate). Exceptions to this rule can only be made in the event that you can show periods of child care following the award of your doctorate (two years per child, if the child is not older than twelve years) or that you were caring for a member of your immediate family.   

  1. The position (salary group 13 TV-L) is offered for a fixed-term of three years based on WissZeitVG (Science Temporary Contract Act). Hence, only the candidates who dispose of the corresponding period of qualification term according to the WissZeitVG can be considered. This will be examined by the University’s human resources department (Personaldezernat) on a case-by-case basis. In cases of doubt, please contact the project coordinator.   

  1. The fixed-term contract covers social security and health insurance according to the German civil service remuneration system.   

  1. Postdoctoral researchers are eligible to apply for annual research funding of up to 6,000 EUR and can participate in training offers for personnel development and be supported in writing grant proposals. Mobility allowances are included in the above-mentioned yearly available funding budget.  

  1. Full-time postdoc researchers are obliged to carry out the teaching assignment of one teaching activity per semester (2 hours per week).  

  1. The following tools can be useful when searching for a suitable host at University of Bremen: research database forex Navigator and the websites of our faculties.  

  1. At the University of Bremen, it is mandatory that the host (mentor) gives a formal declaration to support the planned project. A signed copy of this declaration must be sent to yufe-staffprotect me ?!uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de. 

  2. It is possible for applicants to send a scan of their signed declaration via email to their host professor at the University of Bremen. The professor should then also sign the declaration and forward it to our office via the responsible administration of the respective department. In case the declaration arrives after the deadline, but the application via the online application form has been submitted within the deadline, the application will be considered on time. Please note that this declaration letter must be submitted in addition to the confirmation letter given by your mentor at the contract university.   
  3. University of Bremen supports the Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) that enables an unambiguous correlation of publications to authors. For this reason ORCID is a prerequisite for any funding by the Central Research Development Fund of the University of Bremen. This ID will be required from successful candidates before the start of the funding period.
